Monthly Musings – 12/30/21

Happy Thursday! It is the last Thursday of the month, and year, so I am linking up with Holly and Patty to answer ten fun questions. Here we go!

1. Favorite moment of 2021?

We had a great year in 2021 and I am not sure I can pin down a favorite moment. I did feel pretty good about the days that all four of us got vaccinated. While they weren’t huge or exciting days, it felt so good! Those are days that gave me so much hope!

I loved seeing Zac Brown Band in concert. They have been on my list for a long time. The concert was so good and I am so glad we went!

2. Favorite vacations/trips of 2021?

Seeing the sea turtles hatch this summer was so amazing! That felt like a once in a lifetime moment. I was so excited to watch those sweet baby turtles make their way to the ocean to begin their lives.

We went back to the Greenbrier this year. It was our first family trip with my sister’s husband and baby. It was so nice to all be together. We had a great time together.

I went to the beach with my parents for a weekend. It was so nice to be with them. It’s been a long time since I spent some one on one time with my parents and I really enjoyed it. We went out to a great dinner and my mom and I got to see Elin Hilderbrand. It was the first author I’d seen since everything shut down in 2020 and it was lovely.

I got a little sister time in May. I hopped on a plane to go visit Annie for a weekend. It was great to spend some undivided time with her and Maggie!

We spent a bunch of time at the beach as a family and I always love that. The beach is the place that makes all four of us happy. The kids fished and surfed. Jeff and I read and relaxed. We found shells and played games on the beach. We ate yummy dinners and tried new restaurants. We spent some time with friends and family. Beach days are always our best days!

Jeff and I went to Richmond for my college roommate’s wedding. It was so great to spend time with three of my roommates and their significant others. I love those girls so much and cherish every moment with them. It was wonderful to have a weekend away with Jeff!

3. Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Do you want to share yours?

I sure do and I stick to them. One year I gave up French fries and stuck to it all year. Another year, I wanted to take a picture of Jack and Luke every day and I did. I am going to set a resolution this year, but I am not sure what it is this year.

4. Did you have a word or phrase for 2021? Do you have one for 2022?

I did. My word for 2021 was stretch. I was hoping it would push me to do more yoga and actual stretching and to try new things. I did do a little more stretching, but for the most part I just stretched the limits of my time. Oops! I think I need to be a little more careful about my choice for this year. I’m not sure what my word will be, but I’m looking for one.

I got this great sign from Amanda.

5. Favorite fashion trend from 2021?

I’m not much of a trend girl. I tend to wear classic fits and bright colors all year long. I guess my favorite trend was comfy clothes are now acceptable just about everywhere.

6. Favorite phrase of 2021?

Honestly, I think my favorite phrases were, “Time to go”, “Let’s go Jack!”, and “Let’s go Luke!” Those three phrases meant we were more back to normal. We were hustling out the door to go lots of places – school, friends’ and family’s houses, concerts, restaurants, and more.

I was also cheering my guys on in person. Luke played lacrosse, soccer, basketball, and swam. Jack played golf, baseball, basketball, and swam. We had summer swim again which was so much fun! I cheered so loud this year that Jack actually asked me to wait in the car at a meet. I didn’t and I cheered a little louder. 😉

7. Biggest surprise of 2021?

I wasn’t surprised by how happy I am with our home construction projects. I’ve been planning the addition in my mind for years. But I was a little surprised when it was finally finished. It felt like we were building it FOREVER!!

I know that I am surprised that we are still doing all these covid things almost 2 years later.

8. Stay in or go out on New Year’s Eve?

I like to get together with friends in a low key way. I would be thrilled to be invited to a loungewear or pajama appetizer party with champagne. This magical party would be over around 10 pm. Maybe I need to throw this party and be sure to include a 10 o’clock end time on the invitation. 😂

9. Stay up until midnight or crash early?

In the days leading up to New Year’s Eve, I am all about staying up until midnight. Around 11 o’clock my resolve starts to fade and on January 1st I always regret staying up too late. We usually go back to school on January 2nd or 3rd so there isn’t much sleep recovery time. Jack is dying to stay up until midnight, but Jeff and Luke would much rather head to bed. Who knows what will happen in our house this year…

10. New Year’s Day — football, stay in bed, or binge and chill?

There will definitely be football on tv at my house. I tend to get up and keep tackling my list for the break. If I stay up too late, I may take a little nap. New Year’s Day tends to be a quiet day.

That was so fun to look back at our year! We had a great year and have so much to look forward to in 2022! I am excited to see what everyone else has to say to answer those questions. Be sure to check out Holly’s and Patty’s posts today too. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

So many awesome vacations! I love what you said about favorite phrases. So true- telling the kids to “come on!” means we are back to being busy. I hadn’t thought of it like that. I hope you all have a wonderful new year!

I agree that the days everyone got their first vaccines were such GREAT days! And yes, I really did think (HOPE) that we’d be through the worst of the Covid stuff by now. Blah. “Stretch” is a great word of the year — I love it. My friends used to celebrate a Greenwich Mean Time New Year’s Eve. We’d all be home by 9pm and it was excellent!

I am so impressed that you always stick to your New Year’s resolutions! I almost always forget about them in just a few short weeks and months so I gave up on them entirely a few years ago.
