Show Us Your Books – 6/8/21

Happy Tuesday! It’s a two book post Tuesday and I love it. I’m sharing what I’ve been reading here and I’m sharing two books I can’t wait to read on my other post. I’m sharing adult and kids books today.

Linking up with Steph and Jana

The Invisible Husband of Frick Island by Colleen Oakley

This was a fun book to read because it took place on an island modeled after Smith Island in my home state of Maryland. This is a great summer read!

The Kindest Lie by Nancy Johnson

This was a good book about a long held secret and how it can tear a family apart as it starts to unravel. You know I love family stories and that is exactly what this book is. It wasn’t really a summer read, but it kept me reading until the very end.

In a Book Club Far Away by Tif Marcelo

I thought this would be more about a book club, but it was really a story of friendship and forgiveness. Three friends are bound by their time together on a military base, even though they have been torn apart by their decisions.

The Last Summer at the Golden Hotel by Elyssa Friedland

The book is described as Dirty Dancing meets Schitt’s Creek and I totally see it. This book was just fine as a summer read.

Show Me a Sign by Ann Clare LeZott

I loved this middle grade book. It is historical fiction about the deaf community on Martha’s Vineyard. I learned a little and would recommend it!

Prairie Lotus by Linda Sue Park

Another historical fiction middle grade book here. This one is about a white father and his half Asian, half white daughter moving into the prairie to find work and a home. The story of Hanna figuring out how to make her way in this new town that has a lot of prejudice against Asian people is one I’d recommend.

Indian No More by Charlene Willing McManis

Another historical fiction middle grade novel about America where I learned something new. These three middle grade novels featured three strong little girls that face down their hardships without strength and determination. All three were great!

The Investigators by John Patrick Green

This graphic novel is the first in a series. Luke read it first and he loved it. He’s read all of the rest in the series and begs me to get the new releases. This graphic novel about two alligators solving crimes is a fun read.

I had a good reading month and I am starting our first pool book club book – You, Me, Everything by Catherine Isaac.

Be sure to check out my other post for two more great books. I can’t wait to see what everyone’s been reading this month. What have you been reading? What are you looking forward to reading this month? Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I really enjoyed the Frick Island book too. Have you visited Smith Island? As the inspiration for Frick Island, I’d imagine it as totally charming 🙂 Thanks for sharing and enjoy your month!

I really want to read 3 of the first 4 books you mentioned… so much so that I am looking at buying them since they are unavailable through my library.

My 7-year-old thinks the Investigator series is fun too. And “Dirty Dancing meets Schitt’s Creek” is definitely intriguing… might have to keep that one in mind for when I just need a change of pace and something light.
