Monthly Musings – 3/25/21

Happy Thursday! This week has been busy but good! We are seeing some big steps towards the end of the project this week – paint, flooring, trim, etc. – and I am so excited! It also means we are seeing lots of dust, but it will all be worth it! I’m already picturing my spring and summer decorations in the new space. I’m linking up with Holly and Patty to share some spring thoughts today.

1. Do you celebrate Easter or Passover? If so, what are your traditions?

We celebrate Easter. Our Easter traditions are, well, pretty traditional! We usually go to Easter mass, but I think we’ll watch on tv this year. We do an egg hunt with the kids and they get Easter baskets from the Easter bunny. We usually get together with my parents or Jeff’s parents for dinner. We always take a family picture, too. Jack was 12 days old and Luke was 5 days old on their first Easters.

2. Favorite Spring tradition?

One of my favorite spring traditions is taking the boys to the Peep show. In my hometown, the arts council puts on an art show using Peeps candy. The entries are so creative and we have the best time. We usually go out to lunch afterwards too. We didn’t get to go last year, but I was just talking about planning our trip with my mom yesterday.

3. What Spring activities are you and your family involved in?

Spring tends to get super busy for us and I find myself counting down the days until June 1st. The same thing is happening this spring and it feels even busier because our fall and winter were a little less busy than usual. Jack and Luke swim year round so there’s always swim practice, but in the spring it tends to be a rainy night activity. Jack plays travel baseball and his team is going to Cooperstown this summer. The coach wants them to have a successful season and trip so they are playing A LOT of baseball – 3 practices a week, 1 weeknight game, and a double header on Sunday, plus some tournaments.

Luke plays travel soccer so they have 2 practices a week, a game on the weekends, and a few tournaments sprinkled throughout the spring. Luke is also playing lacrosse this year and he loves it! They have two practices a week and a game on the weekends.

I am still trying to figure out when we are going to get the boys to the golf course, but I’ll make it work somehow. Do you see why I’m usually counting down the days until June 1st?? Honestly though, I love it and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

4. What are you most looking forward to in Spring?

I think I am most looking forward to the weather because warm weather makes it easier to do so many things. We can get together with friends, outside. We can go out to dinner, outside. We can go for long walks, outside. I can start running again, outside. I can read in the sunshine, outside.

I also love the bright colors of spring clothes. Quite frankly, I miss my spring clothes. I haven’t really worn them in two years. Last year was all about the comfy clothes and I’m excited to wear my work spring clothes.

5. Do you plant a garden/flowers?

We do plant a vegetable garden. It is Jeff’s thing and he does a great job at it. I love when the veggies start coming in! We always plant cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, and green beans. Then Jeff picks some random veggies to try each year.

I don’t plant a flower garden but I do add hanging baskets and some potted plants to the front porch. I have a giant planter in front of our house this spring and I’m not sure what I am going to put in that yet.

6. Do you decorate your house for Spring?

I usually decorate for Easter and leave some of that out for the spring. It’s all down by Memorial Day because then my red, white, and blue goes up for the summer.

7. Do you have a favorite Spring meal?

I love when we start grilling regularly again. Jeff is a great griller and those are my favorite meals. Eating outside, grilled meat, and fresh veggies can’t be beat!

8. Does it feel like Spring yet where you live?

For now! It was pouring yesterday, so that’s pretty springy. We’ve had a really warm spell (mid to upper 60s) and it is supposed to continue for the next two weeks. I know that some chilly days will sneak in there though. It still gets chilly at night so practices aren’t hot yet either.

9. Will your Spring look different this year due to COVID?

It will definitely look different than last spring – THANK GOODNESS!! – but it will still look a little different than our 2019 spring. The kids’ sports only allow 1-2 spectators per kid so we’ll be tag teaming those. We are all wearing masks and I don’t think Maryland’s mask mandate will end anytime soon.

We did find out that we won’t be going to the Preakness like we usually do. I’m sad to miss that because we always have so much fun with Jeff’s parents, sister, brother, and their spouses. It’s also a fun day for my parents and the boys.

10. Have you dined outside yet this Spring?

We have and was great! Last weekend was so beautiful that we at outside after the boys’ swim meet. I am ready to eat outside in the afternoon while the sun is warm and strong, but I think evening outdoor dining will be a little chilly.

What is your spring looking like? I’m hoping to spend more time outside of my mobile office (minivan) enjoying the sunshine watching my kids play. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

The Peep show looks so fun! Travis does all the outside stuff and are yard always looks so nice. I always ask for hanging ferns for mother’s day for the front porch. I love your family Easter photos! It does sound like you have a very busy spring and here I am anxious because I have one boy that is starting sports and we’ve never really had to juggle practices and games before (at least not since 1st grade!).
