It’s a two book post Tuesday and I am loving it! Be sure to check out my other post today with new book releases. I’m sharing what I’ve been reading this month. I tried to read a variety of books – fiction, nonfiction audio, kids, and graphic novels – this month. I was reading multiple books at the same time, which I never do. I’m not sure I liked it because I felt torn between what books I should be reading when I sit down to read.
Happiness For Beginners by Carole Matthews
I got a copy of Christmas for Beginners from NetGalley and then I realized that it was a part of a series, so I requested this book from our library. It took me a little while to get the book and then to read it, but it was worth it. Even though The book was a little long, I enjoyed it. I knew how the story was going to end, but I didn’t figure out all the twists along the way.
The Chicken Sisters by K.J. Dell’Antonia
This book was right up my alley – sisters, family drama, reality tv, and a small hometown. It was a great book and I can see why Reese picked it for her book club.

The Dutch House by Ann Patchett (audio)
I loved this book!! Though Danny was the main character and narrator, the Dutch House may have been the most important character in the book! I love how Ann Patchett wrapped the story up at the end and the full circle story of family and forgiveness. I love hearing each character’s perspective of the events and how different they were. Tom Hanks did an amazing job narrating the story. I will probably listen to every book he’s ever narrated because he is so good!
The Guncle by Steven Rowley
This was the sweetest story of family, resilience, and healing all set in the dessert of Palm Beach. Guncle Patrick is charged with his niece and nephew when their mother dies and their father has to go to an inpatient facility. They learn how to be together and how to keep moving despite their enormous grief. I really enjoyed it.

I haven’t read as much as I usually would in a month and I’m not sure why. Hopefully I’ll be reading a good bit more next month. You can see what I’ve been reading on my Books 2021 page. I haven’t read any of these books but they all sound like ones that I’d enjoy reading.
I’ve heard The Guncle is good!
I also don’t like reading multiple books at a time. I usually end up favoring one and never feel incentivized to pick up the other. Also, I don’t like keeping track of multiple storylines at once!

I don’t generally do audiobooks but one narrated by Tom Hanks might be a contender for the one I do a year.
Aw, Guncle sounds so sweet! Like one of those old 60s sitcoms I used to watch when I was home sick from school (Bachelor Father?) with a modern twist.

I LOVED how Tom Hanks narrated The Dutch House. And you are right, the way Patchett brought it full circle and had a theme of forgiveness was really special.
