Friday Favorites – 2/19/21

Happy Friday! This was quite a week! We were off Monday for President’s Day, had a snow day on Thursday, and went to bed Thursday night knowing we would at least have a delay on Friday morning. I have a bunch of favorites from the week. So let’s get to them!

Linking up with Andrea and Erika

Favorite 1: MY VALENTINES!! We decided to do carry out on Valentine’s Day. This kids got to pick because we were also celebrating great report cards. We always give our kids books for Valentine’s Day and this year Jack got Miracle on 49th Street by Mike Lupica and Level 13: a Slacker novel by Gordon Korman. Jack has been wearing Lokai bracelets and wanted the Jackie Robinson one, so I picked it up for him. Luke got Hilo 4 and Hilo 7 by Judd Winick and Spy Penguins by Sam Hay. I also used my Nora Fleming triple dish with a heart for the best conversation hearts – Sweetarts!

We also had some yummy heart shaped food this weekend. My favorite donuts are the brownie batter heart shaped Dunkin Donuts and they only have them this time of year. I also made heart shaped pancakes for the boys on Sunday morning. I’ve also been enjoying my heart shaped Cheerios.

Favorite 2: GAMES!! We have been playing more games lately and this week we played Clue Master Detective. Luke is so funny to play with. He only records his cards, sometimes, and always figures it out first. He guesses the strangest combination of suspects, weapons, and rooms along the way and still figures it out first. I’m hoping he can explain his reasoning to me one day, so I can start winning sometimes too!

Favorite 3: THE BOYS!! Jeff had a shoulder surgery on Thursday morning and the weather was terrible. It sleeted/freezing rained the whole time he was in the hospital. I had to wait in the car because of COVID and it looked like a snowball ice machine was emptying on the hood of my car the whole time. When we got home there was a bunch of shoveling to do. The boys were out there with me for two hours shoveling the driveway and sidewalks.

Favorite 4: THIS COOLER!! Jeff came home with this cooler on Thursday. It makes icing his shoulder so much easier! My parents and Jeff’s parents both recommended a cooler like this one after our dads both had knee replacements. Our dads had one called the IceMan, so I think we should call Jeff’s Maverick or Viper or another Top Gun pilot. 😂

Favorite 5: BOOKS! I took five books with me while Jeff had his surgery because I just wasn’t sure what I was going to be in the mood to read. Here’s what I’m reading:
Fiction: The Chicken Sisters by KJ Dell’Antonia – I’m about 3/4 through it and enjoying it.
Audio Fiction: The Dutch House by Ann Patchett – I am loving Tom Hanks telling me the story!
Nonfiction: Atomic Habits by James Clear – This book speaks to me. I’m reading it slowly for book club.
Kids Fiction – The Unsung Hero of Birdsong, USA by Brenda Woods – I’ve just started this one and am excited to get into it.
Kids Graphic Novel – Stargazing by Jen Wang – I am reading it to write questions for our Battle of the Books competition.

Favorite 6: NEW TOPS!! I ordered three new tops lately and love every single one of them. The Hustle and Shine exercise tank top is so fun. I love the Happiness Comes in Waves from Life is Good because I do find a bunch of happiness in the waves and love the colors. I also ordered a finisher jacket from Fellow Flowers. Jamie and I have done every single virtual run that Fellow Flowers has done. There were 13 runs, 1 for each flower, and we are about to do our final run. This is the jacket you could order if you’ve done all 13. It’s so comfy!

Favorite 7: THE POOL!! On Friday, we officially drop below 100 days until the pool opens! Our pools open on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Today, Friday 2/19 marks 99 days until we will be poolside! I cannot wait!

This picture is from Thursday. Friday is 99!

Favorite 8: LEGOS!! Luke and I are in a battle about what the front room should be called. I say the library, but he thinks it should be the Lego room. He does have thousands of Legos in there, but the bookshelves take up one whole wall. Either way, I love how he loves to build Legos. He got this car for Christmas and finished it this week.

Favorite 9: PARENTS!! My parents have helped me out twice this week. It sounds like a big deal and to me it is, but the never make it seem like a big deal at all. And to be honest, they help us out all the time. My parents take Jack to school twice a week because I am not quite ready for him to ride the bus.

Favorite 10: SUNSHINE!! I learned a new word from my friend Kerry yesterday. It is apricity. It is the warmth of the sun in the winter and it feeds my soul. Spending time outside in the sunshine, even when it is chilly, is so good for all of the Parsons.

If you need us, we’ll be laying pretty low this weekend. Jeff does have to coach Jack’s basketball team in the championship game on Saturday but that’s all we are doing. I’m hoping to get a bunch of reading done and work on some summer plans. Have a great weekend full of sunshine and books!

I hope Jeff’s recovery is smooth sailing! I love your Hustle and Shine shirt. So fun! This week, our pool posted a photo of the snow covered pool with 98 days until it open. With Memorial Day so late, but our last day of school around here being May 18, I think they are opening a few days before Memorial Day weekend. I so glad you have your parents to help you out! What a blessing. Our family doesn’t live in Lex, so we rely on friends, neighbors and each other…which is also a blessing. Have a great weekend.

I hope your husband’s recovery is going well! Your Valentine’s day sounds fantastic. We just started Supergifted and have Level 13 on our list to read next.
