Happy Tuesday! It’s a two book post Tuesday! I am excited to share the books I’ve been reading and the new books coming out today. I feel like I haven’t been reading as quickly this month. I’ve been thinking about why for a few days and I have it narrowed down to two reasons. 1 – I’ve been reading more regular books and I don’t read them at night as much because I don’t love falling asleep with a book on my chest. 2 – I went back to in person, hybrid teaching and I’m tired. When my head finally hits the pillow, I am not awake for very long at all.

Two Truths and a Lie by Meg Mitchell Moore ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

This was on my Summer Beach Reads list in 2020 and I just got around to reading it in January. I was looking for a book that took a little chill out of the winter air and made me fee like summer again. This was perfect for that. There was a little suspense, sunshine, the beach, and small town drama.

I read this as part of a book club at work. This book has been on my shelf for a while but I’m glad I read it as part of a book club at work. The members were a diverse group of people and it was so eye opening to hear everyone’s perspective and how they applied it to their life, their teaching, and their learning. I definitely recommend reading it with someone so you can talk about the book as you are reading.

The Bright Side of Going Dark by Kelly Harms ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I loved The Overdue Life of Amy Byler by Kelly Harms and was really excited to read this one. It was good and would be a carefree summer read. It addressed some big ideas about social media and how we use it. The book really made me stop and think, which I wasn’t expecting.

Class: Welcome to the Little School by the Sea by Jenny Colgan☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I have been trying to get my hands on this book for over a year. I finally just ordered it online from the U.K. It was so much cheaper that way. Class did not disappoint! I love these Jenny Colgan stories and am trying to pace myself on the next two in the series (which I also ordered from the U.K.). Rumor has it that Jenny is going to write three more in the series and I can’t wait!

The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise by Dan Gemeinhart ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I have been reading this book for months! It is a middle grade novel and I was reading it on my virtual teaching day lunch breaks. I decided to finish it last weekend. Luckily Joanne warned me that it made her cry because whoa! I was a teary mess when I was reading it. I stayed up late to finish it and the collar of my pajama shirt was wet from my tears. It was a good cry and the book was great! I’ve talked with a few students that read it this week and they’ve cried too, but not quite the sobbing mess that I was.

Dog Man: Grime and Punishment by Dav Pilkey ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I was hanging with Luke in his room this weekend and decided to read the newest Dog Man. It was a great installment in the series. I think my kids have read it at least a dozen times. As I was reading, Luke kept recapping what had happened and telling me to get excited for what was coming. These graphic novels are so fun and clever. Kids love them and I totally get why.

I guess I read more than I thought I did this month. I think after I finish the book I’m reading now, Happiness for Beginners by Carole Matthews, I am going to read the second book in the Little School by the Sea series. I’m hoping to read a few more kids books next month too! I’m keeping track of all my 2021 reads here and I have my 2020 books here.
