Monthly Musings – 1/28/21

Happy Thursday! I’m watching Sweet Magnolias again as I write my blog post. I’m trying not to watch it too much because I don’t want it to be over, even though I know a second season is coming. I am excited to link up with Holly and Patty for Monthly Musings again this year. This month we are talking Valentine’s Day and love.

1 – How do you show love? What is your love language?

One of my favorite ways to show love is by picking up little gifts or little things that show I was thinking about someone. I also love to plan meals or surprises for people that I love.

My love language is acts of service. After taking the quiz, I think it’s because of the stage of life I am in. We are busy in the throws of raising two boys and working full time and I really appreciate help. I wonder if I retook the quiz in 10-12 years if my love language would be different.

2 – Do you have any favorite Valentine’s traditions?

For a long time, we would go to a restaurant close to our townhouse and have s’mores on Valentine’s Day. Since we’ve moved into our current house, we don’t go for s’mores anymore but we do make them at home some years. We always give the boys books and some candy for Valentine’s Day.

3 – Favorite Valentine’s memory?

I love all the traditions of Valentine’s Day. Jeff and I tend to make traditions quickly. We went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant for the first few years we were dating and it was wonderful! Then we had the s’mores tradition and it was wonderful! Our comfy dinners at home are so wonderful! When I was a little girl, we always had balloons and chocolate hearts no those memories are wonderful too!

This sweet little heart on a hiney will always be a favorite memory!
4 – Favorite Valentine’s treat?

My favorite Valentine’s Day treats are Reese’s hearts. I love them and so does everyone else in my family. I make sure that we all get them on the 14th. I also make sure we all get some Reese’s trees in our stockings, Reese’s eggs in our Easter baskets, and Reese’s pumpkins on Halloween!

I also really love Sweetart conversation hearts. The regular ones are so chalky and not for me!

5 – Do you wear Valentine’s Day fashions?

Of course I do! I love dressing for a theme, and working in an elementary school is perfect for that.

Don’t forget, I have a 10% off code (SUNSHINEANDBOOKS10) for Cora’s Den. The Valentine’s Day jewelry is so fun, and they have a lot of other fun holiday/seasonal jewelry that you can get too!

6 – Valentine’s Day… love, like, or hard pass?

I love Valentine’s Day! It is one of my favorite days at work. Kids are so excited and they have the greatest time exchanging valentines.

7 – What do you think is the most romantic song?

Well, I love the song we danced to for our first dance – It Had to Be You. But I there are so many romantic songs out there. I do love to dance with Jeff to Evergreen by Ed Sheeran.

8 – Dine out, take out, or cook in this Valentine’s Day?

I have no idea what we are doing for Valentine’s Day this year. It’s a Sunday so the day and the options are wide open. In the past, it all depends on the year for what we do for dinner. We don’t usually go out for Valentine’s Day, except for those s’mores. If Jeff’s working, I usually cook for Valentine’s Day and I make a theme dinner – heart pancakes, heart shaped pizza. If Jeff’s not working, we usually get take out from somewhere a little nicer or somewhere different than we usually order from. It’s a nice treat to not have to cook dinner.

9 – Pink or red?

Pink! I will always pick pink over red. I do love red hearts, but I also love pink hearts!

10 – Flowers or chocolates?

Yes, I love both of those. My favorite flowers are peonies but Jeff is super allergic which we discovered on our wedding day. 😂 If I were to get flowers on Valentine’s Day, I think I’d pick pink tulips. When it comes to chocolate, I pick milk chocolate every single time. If you put some peanut butter in there (I’m looking at you Reese’s hearts), I’d be one happy girl.

I’d love to hear what some of your answers are to these fun questions in the comments. This has been a fun week on Sunshine and Books, Hello Monday, Tuesday Book Release, What’s Up Wednesday, today, and Friday Favorites are coming tomorrow!! I hope you’ll be back. Have a great day full of love and sunshine and books!

I love conversation hearts too! I knew you’d have “Valentine’s fashion “ covered! Love your earrings and shirts. Valentine’s Day during elementary school years is the best

That baby outfit is adorable. And I’m sorry you discovered your husband was allergic to peonies on your wedding day. That must have been quite the discovery!
