Show Us Your Books – 11/10/20

Happy two book post Tuesday!! Be sure to check out my other post, Tuesday Book Release Day, for 3 great books coming out today! I’m linking up with Steph and Jana for a super sized Show Us Your Books! I missed last month so there are two months worth of books here. Let’s get to it!

Majesty by Katharine McGee ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I loved the idea of an American royal family and though book 1 in the series, American Royals, was fabulous. Majesty, book 2, was a little slower and there was a lot going on, but I still enjoyed it! It is a YA book and I don’t usually love YA books, but I like this one. I hope there will be an American Royals 3 soon!

Squeeze Me by Carl Hiaasen ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

Oh Carl Hiaasen, I love your books and this was no different! It was sarcastic and funny. People who harm the environment get exactly what’s coming to them. Skink, the governor, was back (hooray)! I loved this book and laughed out loud so many times! Way to go Carl!

Look Both Ways: A Tale Told in Ten Blocks by Jason Reynolds
☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

After meeting Jason Reynolds last year, I was so excited to read this book and it did not disappoint. This story was told from the point of view of ten different kids in the same school. I am going to have Jack read this book as another perspective of different ways of life.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I waited a long time to read this book and it was worth the wait. Like Look Both Ways, it was a definite eye opener. I loved following the story of Starr as she moved between her two worlds. This was a hard read, but I strongly recommend it!

Finding Langston by Lesa Cline-Ransome ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I picked this book up because it is a Black-Eyed Susan Award nominee and it was a good book. The main character Langston is a recent transplant to Chicago after his mother dies. His dad is hurting and the two of them are living together but mostly side-by-side. Langston finds solace in the library and discovers his possible namesake, Langston Hughes.

Calling Mrs. Christmas by Carole Matthews ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I picked up this book as part of the Jenny Colgan Book Club Facebook group. It was my first Carole Matthews book and I already reserved another at our library. Cassie is unemployed and decides to start her own business helping people prepare for Christmas. She calls herself Mrs. Christmas and is ready to do anything. She gets a client who seems to make her dreams come true, but is torn between him and her current boyfriend. It was a book like a Hallmark movie and it was perfect for me.

The Endless Beach by Jenny Colgan ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
Christmas on the Island by Jenny Colgan ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
Christmas at the Island Hotel by Jenny Colgan ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I read the first book in this series, Cafe by the Sea, a few years ago and was excited to revisit the Scottish island of Mure. I love Jenny Colgan’s books because there is some drama, beautiful scenery, great characters, and happy endings! When I realized the fourth book in the series was coming out this year, I decided that I needed to read books 2, 3, and 4 this fall and I am so glad I did! **Free copy of Christmas at the Island Hotel in exchange for my opinion from NetGalley.**

Troubles in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

Oh I was so happy to read this book and so sad to finish it!! I love Elin’s books and was so excited to tour St. John with her guidance. This is the third and final book in the Paradise trilogy. In this book we follow up with the Steeles and their extended family – Irene, Baker, and Cash, Maia, Huck, and Ayers. I absolutely loved how Elin tied up all of the loose ends with just enough drama and a special guest appearance from her other winter series. Elin had definitely done it again! **Free copy in exchange for my opinion from NetGalley.**

Whoa! If you are still here 10 books later, you are a true reading trooper! I hope you find a great new book to read! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

The American Royals series sounds fun, I haven’t had the best luck with the few YA books I’ve read this year. I just added Look Both Ways to my hold list– so excited to read.

  2. Kimberly says:

Definitely adding Calling Mrs. Christmas because YES I need Christmas books now and I also love Jenny Colgan and if her FB group recommends it then I’m in.

The Hate U Give was fantastic. I thought a lot about it this summer.
