Tuesday Book Release Day

Happy Tuesday! This is a big Tuesday for book releases and I have two exciting author talk opportunities to share. You know I love love love independent bookstores! I do as much as I can to support them personally and professionally. I try to shop there at least once a month and have a wonderful business partnership between my school and local bookstore. Independent bookstores are still working hard to bring authors to readers even in these Covid times. I wanted to share two free book talks with you. If you haven’t purchased the book they are talking about, I encourage you to buy it from that independent bookstore.

Last week we talked about Troubles in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand. She has a number of virtual book talks scheduled that are included if you buy a book from that bookstore, but tonight there is a free one. Malaprops in Asheville, NC is hosting Elin at 6 pm on October 13th and you need to register. So hop on over to their website to check it out!

Tomorrow night, Wednesday October 14th, my local bookstore is hosting Lisa Jewell. A Likely Story is hosting Lisa Jewell at 6 pm. It is a Facebook event and there is no need to register, just tune in. Debbie, the amazing owner, has compiled a list of all the virtual author events they’ve done recently. Make sure you scroll down to the bottom to see the Book Lovers Week events done in coordination with our incredible public library!

I met Lisa last year and she was so incredibly lovely!

You’ll have to let me know if you’d like me to continue sharing free author events in the future. Share your opinion in the comments, please! Now let’s get to the new books being released today!!

Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell

Owen Pick’s life is falling apart. In his thirties and living in his aunt’s spare bedroom, he has just been suspended from his job as a teacher after accusations of sexual misconduct—accusations he strongly denies. Searching for professional advice online, he is inadvertently sucked into the dark world of incel forums, where he meets a charismatic and mysterious figure.
Across the street from Owen lives the Fours family, headed by mom Cate, a physiotherapist, and dad Roan, a child psychologist. But the Fours family have a bad feeling about their neighbor Owen. He’s a bit creepy and their teenaged daughter swears he followed her home from the train station one night.
Meanwhile, young Saffyre Maddox spent three years as a patient of Roan Fours. Feeling abandoned when their therapy ends, she searches for other ways to maintain her connection with him, following him in the shadows and learning more than she wanted to know about Roan and his family. Then, on Valentine’s night, Saffyre disappears—and the last person to see her alive is Owen Pick.

Jingle All The Way by Debbie Macomber

Trapped in the middle of five siblings, Everly Lancaster always had big dreams. Now a top real-estate executive, Everly finds her work is her life, leaving no space for anything (or anyone) else. Sensing her stress, Everly’s boss insists she take December off. At first, a month away seems crazy—how will the company survive without her? But Everly’s mother convinces her otherwise. She deserves a vacation—plus, when she returns, she’ll have no excuse to skip family Christmas like she did last year.
But after her vengeful assistant books a guided cruise in the Amazon instead of the luxury beach vacation she expected, Everly is horrified to realize that she’s about to spend the next two weeks trapped—with no Wi-Fi!—in the rain forest. Not even Asher Adams, the ship’s charming naturalist, can convince Everly that the trip will be unforgettable. Slowly but surely, she realizes he is right: the sights are spectacular. And with each passing day, Everly’s relationship with Asher deepens, forcing her to take a long, hard look at her priorities.
Everly and Asher begin to see magic in the possibility of a life together. But as the cruise nears its end, and Everly’s family Christmas approaches, both must decide if love is worth the risk. A merry surprise may be in store in Debbie Macomber’s newest holiday delight.SEE LESS

Return to Virgin River by Robyn Carr
#21 in the series and a Netflix show

Kaylee Sloan’s home in Southern California is full of wonderful memories of the woman who raised her. But the memories are prolonging her grief over her mother’s recent death. A successful author, Kaylee hoped she could pour herself into her work. Instead she has terrible writer’s block and a looming deadline.
Determined to escape distractions and avoid the holiday season, Kaylee borrows a cabin in Virgin River. She knows the isolation will help her writing, and as she drives north through the mountains and the majestic redwoods, she immediately feels inspired. Until she arrives at a building that has just gone up in flames. Devastated, she heads to Jack’s Bar to plan her next steps. The local watering hole is the heart of the town, and once she crosses the threshold, she’s surprised to be embraced by people who are more than willing to help a friend—or a stranger—in need.
Kaylee’s world is expanding in ways she never dreamed possible. And when she rescues a kitten followed by a dog with a litter of puppies, she finds her heart opening up to the animals who need her. And then there’s the dog trainer who knows exactly how to help her. As the holidays approach, Kaylee’s dread turns to wonder. Because there’s no better place to spend Christmas than Virgin River.

I am Anne Frank by Brad Meltzer

This engaging biography series focuses on the traits that made our heroes great–the traits that kids can aspire to in order to live heroically themselves. Each book tells the story of an icon in a lively, conversational way that works well for the youngest nonfiction readers. At the back are an excellent timeline and photos. This volume features Anne Frank, whose courage and hope during a time of terror are still an inspiration for people around the world today.

I cannot keep these books on the shelf in my school library! Kids love this series!!

**As always, the summaries come from the authors’ or publishers’ websites because they know it best!**
