Show Us Your Books – 7/7/20

Happy Tuesday! Tuesday is always a big book day here on Sunshine & Books! Today is a double book post – Show Us Your Books and Tuesday Book Release Day.

I’m linking up with Steph and Jana to show you my books! **Oops, I just realized the link up is next week. 😂** I have been reading a bunch because it’s summer! Let’s get to the books!

Glitch by Sarah Graley ☀️ ☀️
This kid’s graphic novel was not for me. I powered through it because I needed to read it for work. It is about a glitch in a new video game that allows a player to go into the game. It wasn’t for me.

The House on Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
This was a great summer read! I’ve only read Jenny Hale’s Christmas books and they were just like a Hallmark Christmas movie. This one was just like a Hallmark movie too! Just what I was hoping for! Sydney is a single mother who lives in her family’s beach cottage in Firefly Beach. Her old boyfriend, Nate, comes back to Firefly Beach and tries to work his way back into Sydney’s life. She’s just not sure what why he wants back in and if she’s ready to let him into her heart. See, total Hallmark type.

Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
This was my first Jennifer Weiner book in a long time, maybe ever. I loved the mystery and the fun wedding storyline. There is a mystery in the story and I had no idea who did it until it was revealed.

On Ocean Boulevard by Mary Alice Monroe ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
(2020 Summer Beach Reads book)
I was so excited that MAM took us back to the beach! I loved hearing Linnea’s story. One of my favorite things that authors do is introduce characters from different stories in their current book. In this book, some of the characters from the Lowcountry Summer series appeared and I was positively giddy!! This was a great next installment in the Beach House series.

Girls of Summer by Nancy Thayer ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
(2020 Summer Beach Reads book)
This book checked all the summer boxes for me – beautiful setting, family drama, lovely romance, and fun!! Between Nancy Thayer and Elin Hilderbrand, I have fallen in love with Nantucket and I’ve never been! As soon as we are able to safely travel, watch out! I’m heading to Nantucket!!

The Lies That Bind by Emily Giffin ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
(2020 Summer Beach Reads book)
I did not love this book for the first third or so. I was determined to power through, but I was really struggling. 9/11/01 plays a big part in the book and I really struggled with it. My friend Kourtni figured out that I do not like to read about hard things and she is totally right. There are enough hard things in the world right now and I want to read fun, lighter stories. Once the book moved on to September 12th and 13th, I had a total change of heart. I loved following Cecily’s story and all of the decisions she made.

The View From Here by Hannah McKinnon ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ 1/2
I really like Hannah McKinnon’s books. This one took place in a beautiful Connecticut lakeside community. Three generations of the Goodwin family all live near the lake and have no idea what is really going on in any of their relative’s lives. Outwardly, everyone is living a great life and has everything you could ever wish for. Behind closed doors, there is bankruptcy, fear, and unraveling relationships. I enjoyed the whole book, but thought the end was a little abrupt.

This was a good 7 book month! I am looking forward to another big reading month coming up with 2 weeks at the beach and some good summer reading! Don’t forget to check out the Tuesday Book Releases today! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I just finished Big Summer yesterday and I too was surprised at who it was! I see quite a few books on this list I want to add to my must read stack!

I’m excited to read Big Summer. One of my book club friends just read The Lies That Bind and recommended it, too. Emily Giffin tends to be hit and miss for me, but I’ll check that one out.
