Surprise Book Bags – 4/23/20

Happy Thursday! You all know that I love to read and I love A Likely Story, my local bookstore. I have been trying to read a bit more now that we are home all the time. I have quite a TBR shelf on my main bookshelf and a bunch of books on my Kindle from NetGalley, but I am always looking for a new book to read.

A Likely Story is doing their best to keep our town reading since Maryland is under “Stay at Home” orders and the library is closed. A Likely Story is doing curbside pick up, local delivery, and shipping to readers. They are so accessible to order – you can call, order online, or message them.

Each year they do a blind date or don’t judge a book by it’s cover display. In these displays the books are completely covered and there is a little synopsis on the covering. Remember my blind date?

During the “Stay at Home” time, they are doing something a little different. You can order surprise bags. There are a few categories. Adult, YA, middle grade, early elementary, and young children. They did something a little different this time. In addition to getting the surprise book, you also get an advance reader copy that hasn’t been released yet. How fun!!

They ask you to tell a little bit about what you like to read and what you’ve read when you order. I talk with Debbie, the owner, and few of the employees about what I read and what I’ve read and what I like to read. Surprise, I have a frequent buyer account at the store so they have a good idea of what I like.

I ordered 2 books and 2 ARCs for myself. I am so excited to read my new books. When I first got my surprise bag, in this adorable bag, I had already read the two books – one from NetGalley and one from the library so they didn’t know I’d read them. I thought they were both great choices for me, though.

Debbie was so wonderful and agreed to try two new books for me. I haven’t read any of these and can’t wait to read them!

My first ARC – I already finished it and I loved it! I passed it on to my mom and can’t wait to hear what she thinks!!
My second ARC – The Lion’s Den
I am excited to read this one, too!
A quote on the front by Elizabeth Berg has major pull for me! I can’t wait to read this one!
I’m pretty excited to read this one, too!

I also got the March and April Indie Next newsletters. I love to look at these to find books to read.

When ordering books for Jack and Luke, I said that both boys love sports books and books by Mike Lupica, Tim Green, and Dan Gutman. I also said that they like funny graphic novels like Hilo, Dog Man, and Mr. Pants. They did a great job picking books for both boys!

The kids books came in these fun bags.

They also had an issue of Star Wars comic book and the Kids’ Indie Next newsletter for Spring 2020. I love that list!

I ordered the Early Elementary 2 chapter books and 1 ARC pack for Luke. He was so excited to get into his bag and see what he has to read.

Luke’s first book looks perfect for him!
His second book is a great match, too!
Luke’s ARC is a great graphic novel match for him!

I ordered the Middle Grade (4th-7th) 2 books and 1 ARC pack for Jack. He was so excited to get a new to him Mike Lupica title!

Middle School Bites is perfect because he starts middle school in the fall! He got the first two books in James Patterson’s Middle School series in his Easter basket so I’d say he’ll be ready!

Jack’s ARC looks great!

If you need us, we’ll be reading! Feel free to contact Debbie at A Likely Story – www.sykesvillebooks.com and 410-795-1718. You can tell them Sarah sent you 😉.

Have a great day full of sunshine and books!!
