10 on the 10th – 10/10/19

Happy Thursday! We had Wednesday off from school and it was a lovely break in the week. The weather was pretty chilly, but I got a lot done around the house. I made each of the kids a list at the beginning of the day and they had to manage the fun and their responsibilities. It worked pretty well!

I am linking up with Whitney to share 10 on the 10th. This month we are sharing our 10 favorite books/movies/podcasts/shows. I am going to share a random assortment of all four of those to create a list of 10.

1. Another Mother Runner podcast

I love listening to the Another Mother Runner podcast when I am running. It is like running with girlfriends when I’m running solo. Sarah and Dimity talk about a wide variety of running issues or topics. My favorite episodes are the AMR Answers episodes. Women call in and leave voicemails with their questions. Sarah and Dimity research the answers or use their own experiences to offer their answers. I really love it! If you are a runner or a mover in any way, you’ll probably love it too!

2. The Hurricane Sisters by Dorothea Benton Frank

This is my favorite book by Dottie. I love all of her books, but this one is my favorite. I love the strong women and how the generations of women interact and are evolving. I love the beautiful scenery, even in the threat of a devastating hurricane.

3. Christmas Vacation

I am a sucker for a Christmas movie, and this is one of my absolute favorites. It makes me laugh and I can find appropriate quotes to use all throughout the year. I love to wrap while I watch it and I love to watch it with my family and hear them giggle.

4. Real Housewives of OC/NY/BH/Dallas & Southern Charm

I love a good Bravo reality show, mostly the housewives and southern charmers. Enough said.

5. Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar

This was one of my favorite books that a teacher ever read to me. My third grade teacher read this book to us and I will forever introduce it to any third grader I meet. The first chapter sucks the kids right in with the awful Mrs. Gorf who turns children into apples. If you have a middle grade kid, share it with them. I bet they’ll love it too!

6. My Summer Beach Author Group – Elin, Nancy, Mary Kay, Dorothea, Mary Alice, Jamie, Kristy

These ladies have written some of my favorite books and they are the books I look forward to the most each year. Their publish date signifies the beginning of summer and my favorite easy, sunshine days. I anxiously await their new books each summer. There have been a few years where we get lucky and the gals write a winter book too! This year Elin and Nancy are giving us winter books! Enjoy! In case you don’t know their last names: Elin Hilderbrand, Nancy Thayer, Mary Kay Andrews, Dorothea Benton Frank, Mary Alice Monroe, Jamie Brenner, Kristy Woodson Harvey. Happy reading!

7. Golden Girls

For the past year or so, I have rediscovered The Golden Girls. It is on at 10 pm on Hallmark and is perfect for drifting to sleep while watching. I am still blown away by how young they are in the show because when I first watched the show I thought they were OLD!! Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia make me laugh every single time!

8. Big Little Lies (book and tv)

I loved the Big Little Lies book. It grabbed my attention on page one and held me until the very end. I did not love Big Little Lies tv show season one because it was so different from the book. Everything about it bothered me. The characters didn’t look like I’d pictured them in my head and it was in Monterey, not Australia. However, season two was great. I totally did not see the twists coming and I think they did a great job continuing the story. There was no book for it to differ from, so I loved it as an original and not a much changed adaptation.

9. Brains On podcast

We love this podcast in our car. It is created for children, but I learn a bunch from it too! It’s perfect for long car rides when I’d like the kids to be kinda quiet but not on their iPads. The creators of Brains On created two more podcasts – Smash Boom Best and Forever Ago. Smash Boom Best pits two things against each other and has experts tell why their thing is better. For example chocolate vs cheese, ice age vs Jurassic, Grand Canyon vs Mount Everest, and piranhas vs Venus flytraps. Forever Ago gives the origin of one thing, for example, shoes, sandwiches, etc. My kids and I love all three of these.

10. Anne Bogel’s What Should I Read Next and One Great Book podcasts

I found these when I had a long drive by myself and I love listening to Anne’s suggestions for a great book to read. Her books are usually outside what I would select for myself, but she hasn’t led me astray yet. I also love that she supports Libro.fm because it is a way to listen to audiobooks while supporting your local bookstores.

Bonus: Sex and the City

You know I love that show! I’ve watched it beginning to end twice and I always stop and watch when I find it on tv. I love how the women support each other no matter what. The style, the fun, the girlfriends, and the city are all fabulous!

Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

Oh yes, Christmas vacation is one of my all time favorite movies and I quote it all year long for sure. I am so jealous you have met so many wonderful authors!

I love this post so much–and THANK YOU for including me in it!! I’m so flattered. Meeting you was such a highlight for me. I’m a huge Sex and the City fan too. Always and forever. I did an event with Candace Bushnell over the summer and I about died!! (My characters actually talk about one of her new essays in Feels Like Falling. Fangirl, much?) Happy weekend and lots of love!
