Happy Monday!! We are back in town and I am back to the blog. I am linking up with Heather and the girls for Hello Monday today to share our swim team fun.
My guys had a great swim team season this summer. They had so much fun and swam well. We wrapped up the season on Saturday with Divisionals, the division championship meet, and a super fun swim team banquet.
For anyone that doesn’t know, I was a swimmer for a long time. I swam one meet when I was four and I loved it. I started swimming the following year and swam for my summer team, WRC, until I graduated from high school. I coached the team while I was swimming and continued coaching for a few years after I finished swimming. I was also a winter/year round swimmer. I swam for our local YMCA for a few years and then started swimming USS until my senior year in high school. I loved swimming and it was my sport. Some of my closest friends are my swimming friends and they just keep popping up in my life. For instance, when I was running in a park at the beach I ran into a swimming friend. When I was at our pool today, I made a connection with someone who knew my swimming friends and my coach. My kids swim against some of my swimming friends kids at some summer meets. My mom still keeps in touch with the swim moms. Swimming was a big part of my and my family’s life for a long time and I LOVED it!!
Ok, back to the kids. They have been winter swimmers for a year and a half. I’m not sure that it is the sport they love the most, but they really enjoy it. The team they swim for in the winter is perfectly flexible for our life and the boys have made so much improvement. They are working hard and it shows! I am so proud of them.
Jack and Luke have been on our summer swim team for four years and each year has been better than the one before. Jack and Luke had fabulous big buddies! They cheered each other on in their races and hung out at swim meets. The Parsons brothers really look up to their buddies this year, who are also brothers!
At our swim team banquet, Luke won the Dominant Dolphin award. This means he was the boy high point winner for the team. Luke swam hard and always stepped up to race anyone in his age group. He and the girl high point winner are good buddies, have been on the team for 4 years, and are both 8 this year. These two have been in school together since they were 3 years old and it was pretty cool for them to win this award together!
Jack won the Dedicated Dolphin award. He won this award for his dedication to the team and to becoming a better swimmer. He was always looking for ways to improve his technique and times. He sought the coaches’ advice on his starts and finishes. Sometimes he asked to go to two practices a day and he worked hard in all of them. He asked to move up a practice group to challenge himself and he kept up with the big kids. I am super proud of Jack!!
It is bittersweet that summer swim team is over. It will be nice to have some mornings with nothing to do and not have to be at the pool so early on Saturday mornings. We will miss the fun of practices and meets and seeing our swim friends all the time. The boys have a month off until winter swim starts and I think they’ll be more than ready to get back in the pool to practice! I am one proud mama of my swimmers!!
I love being back on the deck as a swim mom and watching my boys have just as much fun swimming! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!!
That is SO cool that you were a swimmer too Sarah- must be a blast to now watch your boys too- have a great week!
