Friday Favorites – 4/12/19

Happy Friday!! I am linking up with Erika, Narci, and Andrea to share my favorites this week.

Favorite 1: MODERN MEDICINE!! Oh my goodness! I am so thankful for modern medicine like Amoxicillin, Neomycin, Sudafed, Advil, and Tylenol!! I started feeling a little yuck on Saturday afternoon and chalked it up to allergies, but I woke up on Sunday morning and knew it had to be something worse. I ended up at urgent care diagnosed with strep throat and an ear infection in both ears. I figured recovery would be quick because when kids get strep they usually bounce back after a dose or two of antibiotics. Let me tell you, I most certainly did not bounce back. At all! I was out for three days. My tonsils were swollen for days and I didn’t eat solid food for four days! I did manage to run my mile, very slowly and with some breaks, each day to keep my run streak alive (day 832). So, those medicines I listed at the beginning are my favorite of the week because they are the only way I am typing these words.

Favorite 2: MAIN STREET MILE!! For the past 38 years, the city where I grew up has a run down Main Street. It is a fun, mostly downhill run. The boys and I have done it for the past three or four years, we can’t remember. We ran on Wednesday night when I was finally feeling a little bit better. We had a bunch of friends there and some teachers from school, too. My mom always cheers us on at the halfway point. I love this run with my kiddos!

Favorite 3: BASEBALL!! Luke had his first baseball game on Saturday. He did a great job and had so much fun, as usual. He got to pitch the first inning and did a great job! Then he got to catch the second inning. There is just something about a little boy in all that gear with his hat backwards that melts my heart!!

Favorite 4: THEATER!! Jeff and I went to see Book of Mormon on Saturday night. Jeff and his siblings gave his parents tickets for Christmas. We went out for dinner before at one of my favorite Baltimore restaurants, McCormick & Schmick, and then headed over to the show. It is definitely irreverent, but it was so funny!!

Favorite 5: SWIM MEETS! The boys had their last indoor swim meet of the year last weekend. Jack swam long course for the first time and crushed it! I am so proud of him!! Luke swam in an 8 & under meet on Sunday and had a great meet, too. Jeff and I have officially put in our time on the “comfy” metal bleachers by the pools this winter. And we can’t wait for next winter.

I accidentally over scheduled us last weekend and it pushed us to the max with me feeling sick. Luke had his First Communion retreat on Saturday morning while Jack was at the swim meet. Then we all met at Luke’s baseball game. Part way through the baseball game, we left the kids with my parents to go get ready for dinner and the show. On Sunday morning, both boys had swim meets. Then, we met at Luke’s soccer game. After the game, Jack had a 2 hour baseball practice and I marched myself to urgent care. Jeff sent me to bed and took over the rest of the evening. Luckily, that is our last really crazy weekend for a long time.

We have some fun this weekend and I am looking forward to feeling all the way better and having a regular week. Have a great weekend full of sunshine and books!

Glad you’re feeling better; that’s a lot to get over all at once. I am always amazed at how resilient kids are because I know when I get sick it takes me much longer to recover.
