A Snow Day in the Life – 2/25/19

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Heather and the girls to share a day in the life for Hello Monday.

I was planning on doing a day in the life post on Wednesday, February 20th because it was supposed to be a pretty regular day for us. And then it snowed, and snowed, and freezing rained all day. So I did a snow day in the life. I hope you enjoy it!

The school system announced that we school was cancelled the night before so I didn’t set an alarm. My internal alarm woke me up around 6. I laid in bed and scrolled my phone (instagram, facebook, blogs, etc.) for a little while. We told the boys that they couldn’t get out of bed until 7, hoping that everyone could get a little extra sleep.

When the boys woke up and were allowed to come downstairs, we all got comfy on the couch. They watched the Maryland basketball game from last night and I read The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory.

The snow finally started falling!! I made pancakes for breakfast. We have all always loved pancakes, and these Kodak cakes are a hit. I love that they have more protein than Bisquick and still taste good. I filled up my Zooma Winter Warrior mug with water to start the day off right.

After breakfast, Jack and Luke went upstairs to play and I sat down to finish The Proposal and start Your Second Life Begins When You Realize You Only Have One by Raphaelle Giordano.

They set up and played a Nerf indoor putt putt course. Then built forts in their beds. Ever since they got their new loft beds for Christmas, they have been playing in their rooms so much much more and often build forts or hideouts up there.

Then I declared it reading time while Jeff did a little work. It is the perfect way to make sure everyone is quiet and they end up reading for way longer than I ask them to.

After getting his work done, Jeff decided today was the day to introduce the boys to Hoosiers. They hit the couch and I headed down to the treadmill to have a little girl time.

I live with 3 boys so my only girl time today was with Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda. I was watching the second to last episode of Sex and the City. I forgot how sad I get when Carrie goes to Paris. It was a tough 3 miles that I was periodically crying through.

I made lunch for everyone and joined them on the couch to finish Hoosiers. Silly Luke!

Then the boys headed out to do some sledding in the field behind our house. I cleaned up the kitchen and started on my very first grocery pick up order from Walmart!!

I am so excited about this!! I really think it is going to be life changing! I do a lot of my grocery shopping at Walmart. Being able to pick it up instead of running through Walmart while the kids are at religious education is going to free up so much time!!! Here’s a referral link for $10 off your first order. I hope it changes both of our lives!!

We use old beach towels to hold all the snow stuff. I makes me smile and pretend I’m at the beach when I put out our tropical towels.

After a tv show and our own cocoa crawl, Luke played with legos and Jack practiced his trumpet. Jeff headed out to start shoveling.

Luke and I went up to hear Jack finish practicing his trumpet and we decided to join in too. Jack’s five months of playing the trumpet have made him significantly better than us!

We are reading Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein for our school wide reading club. Even though I am the one running it we are a little behind. I downloaded it on Audible so the kids could listen while I was driving last night. They loved listening on my phone so we read/listened to our last 3 chapters while dinner was cooking.

We had a delicious dinner of roast chicken, mashed potatoes (thank you Bob Evans!), and vegetable medley.

I am not sure what happened to my chicken but it fell apart as soon as I put a knife to it. I’m just thankful that it wasn’t like the turkey on Christmas Vacation. 😂 I love my apron. My mom made it for me out of vintage Lilly fabric that was my grandmother’s, or maybe my great grandmother’s.

We put the boys to bed and I did my least favorite mom task – packing lunches! I know my kids should do it, but sometimes it is just easier to do it myself. They do help sometimes.

I rewarded myself with a glass of wine and a Reese’s heart while I watched the last episode of Sex and the City. I laughed and cried and was so sad to reach the end. Next up, both movies!

Then I headed to bed around 10 hoping for a 2 hour delay the next day!

That’s a pretty typical snow day for us. These are one of my favorite blogs to read, so I hope you enjoyed a snow day in the life. Have a great week full of sunshine and books!
