Our Weekend on Wednesday – 1/22/19

Happy Wednesday! I was enjoying our day off on Monday and never got around to sharing our weekend. We had a lot of fun even though it was FREEZING! I haven’t been that cold in a long time. We had a cold rain and when it stopped raining the temperatures plummeted and we had below zero wind chills.

We headed up to my friend Jamie’s house for a spring Stella & Dot open house Friday evening after swim team practice. Jack and Luke had so much fun playing with Jamie’s kiddos. Her kiddos were their first friends. Jamie and I had weekly play dates after Luke was born because our kids were the same age and we needed some good adult conversations. I picked up a very cute pair of earrings and a FABULOUS bag. Feel free to check out Jamie’s Stella & Dot website here. You may remember Jamie from my Shop Small post.

We had a Saturday full of basketball. Jack had his regular league game first. He played in a school where I used to teach so it was a fun walk down memory lane. The team played really well and they won!

Luke had a game at 1:00. He played really well too!

Jack’s next games were at 2:00 and 3:00 so Luke and I didn’t make it. They played two 5th grade teams so the games were pretty tough. After those games, we were home for the night. It was getting really cold and still raining hard – perfect for couch snuggling!

On Sunday morning, we were up and off to Jack’s last basketball game. They won the game and played well together. It was really fun to watch. Jeff’s dad came to cheer on the coach and his favorite player, #00.

After a run on the treadmill, I spent the afternoon in my favorite chair with The Glass Ocean. It took a little while to get into it, but once I got going I couldn’t put it down. We watched some football and had some more snuggles on the couch.

I made oven ribs for the first time. My cousin sent me a great rub recipe and they were so delicious! It was a yummy summer time dinner on a freezing cold evening.

On Monday morning, I got up for a 5:30 am BodyPump class. I wanted to see if I could swing it before school and unfortunately I am just not sure I could do it. I hopped on the treadmill and caught the beginning of the Today show. I love the Today show and don’t get to watch it that often with the kids around. It was a great way to start my day off.

Jack and Luke had a golf lesson so I had more time with The Glass Castle. Hooray!!

I finished the book and all I have to say is WOW! I did not see that ending coming. It is about 2 passengers on the Lusitania and a modern day historian trying to find out their stories. All three characters are woven together through the chapters and it was divine! This was the Jolabokaflod book that I gave Jeff’s mom. We both loved it!! If yo are looking for a great book to read, pick up this one!!

I had a delicious dinner in the crockpot. We call it Mexican Guts because it can go in any vessel – tacos, burritos, on a salad, quesadillas, etc. It was so yummy that Luke actually asked for seconds. #winning! I shared the recipe on Monday. Check it out here.

I am now reading two great books – The Library Book by Sharon Orlean and A Long Pitch Home by Natalie Dias Lorenzi. A Long Pitch Home is a kids book about a boy whose family moves to the United States from Pakistan with very little warning. Bilal, the main character, is trying to navigate a new country, new living situations, and leaving his father behind in Pakistan. It is a great story, evokes empathy in the reader, and has brought me to tears a few times.

We also had some beautiful sunrises and sunsets this weekend!!

Have a great day full of sunshine and books!!

Linking up with Lindsay and the Welcome Wednesday girls.
