Friday Favorites – 9/28/18

Happy Friday!!! We had a pretty good week over here and I am excited to share my favorites with you. I’m linking up with Erika, Narci, and Andrea. Here we go!

Favorite 1 – WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING!!

I finished this book this week and it was great! This is the story of Kya, a marsh girl in the south who is abandoned by the people she loves one by one.  She is a resilient, smart girl who, when left to her own devices, manages to survive.  I loved the way each chapter moved back and forth in Kya’s life.  Even though author Delia Owens doesn’t share the events in Kya’s life in chronological order, they come to give the reader a full perspective of how Kya survives and why she makes the choices she does.  I absolutely LOVED this book!! After I finished, I kept saying “what a great book” aloud to myself.  I recommend it to anyone that loves to read southern stories, stories with strong women, stories of families, love stories, ok, really, I will recommend it to anyone that can read!!

Favorite 2 – STRING GAMES!! When I was little, I love to do Cat’s Cradle with my sister or friends. I didn’t really remember how to do anything with the string aside from the first set up.  No worries now because string games are taking the boys school by storm.  The kids break out their strings during dismissal and are teaching each other all kinds of cool formations.  We’ve been doing a little YouTube learning over here to master Jacob’s Ladder and other tricky string shapes.

Even Mom can do Jacob’s ladder with some help from the boys!

Favorite 3 – RAINY DAY CREATIVITY!! This one is a stretch because I am not loving all this rain we’ve been getting. I am not loving it one bit! I am loving the fun things my kids have been coming up with around the house!

Sometimes you just have to get outside and ride your bike in the rain!

Favorite 4 – BIRTHDAY CARDS!  I love funny or witty birthday cards! I love to give them and get them. I love shopping for them with Jack and Luke because they get such a kick out of some cards.  That laugh out loud, belly giggle is a definite day changer! Here are some of my favorites from this year:

Favorite 5 – SUNSHINE!! Even though it has been raining like crazy this week, we have been able to sneak in a few moments of sunshine.  Luckily we had a little sunshine after school on Tuesday and Wednesday before the rain started back up again.  We went right outside to soak up the sun and get some fresh air after school. ☀️

Do you see that sun shining behind me??

When you don’t know how long you have before it starts raining again, you play football and soccer at the same time so you are sure you can play it all!

That wraps it up for the week. I am reading Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and I will hopefully finish it this weekend.  I am looking forward to our first dinner club with some friends. Luke has 2 soccer games, Jack has baseball and swim, and we are looking forward to watching the Ryder Cup on tv.

I hope your weekend is full of sunshine and books!!

Stopping by from The Blended Blog – and smiling immediately because your blog title includes two of my very favorite things! 🙂 And I’m definitely putting Where the Crawdads Sing on my library holds list now – I’ve been seeing it mentioned all over the place, but you’ve convinced me! Hope you enjoy Eleanor Oliphant as much as I did…
