What’s Up Wednesday – May 2018

Hi! I took a few days off for the long weekend, but I am back for What’s Up Wednesday. I have a few fun posts planned for the next few weeks and I am counting down the days until summer break! 12 school days, in case you were wondering. 😎

WhatsUpWedUpdatedWUWquestions-edit-969x1024I am linking up with Sheaffer, Shay, and Mel to share what’s been going on in our lives this month.  So here goes…

WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK…

Sunday – We grilled out with some friends that are finishing up their cow to make room for this year’s cow. It was delicious and so much fun.

Monday – I made taquitos. They are a Parsons’ family favorite!

Tuesday – Subway between an orthodontist appointment and baseball

Wednesday – Something quick before baseball, maybe grilled chicken or tacos.

Thursday – out, but I’m not sure what.

Friday – hopefully eating at Just Hooked, a delicious farm and water to table restaurant.

Saturday – I have no idea, maybe pizza or grilling burgers.

WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT…

I have been loving all of our “first swim of the season” pictures.  Opening Day at the pool is a big day around here. Ever since I was a little girl, Saturday of Memorial Day weekend is cause for celebration!

WHAT I’M LOVING…

I am loving all this sunshine! I have been running outside every day and it feels so good! We’ve been swimming and playing outside as much as we can. Everyone in my house is happier when we are outside in the sunshine!

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO…

The boys have been playing a lot of baseball when the sun is out, but they’ve been rained out a good bit too.  We have been swimming and playing on the new playground at the pool.  This year we got a big pirate ship and the kids are loving it!

WHAT I’M DREADING…

I am not really dreading much.  We only have 12 days of school left, but I guess I am dreading packing those 12 lunches. I love summer and don’t dread anything about it, ever!!

WHAT I’M WORKING ON…

I am working on piling up my summer book list! I am a little behind on my reading list but I have a huge list of books ready to go when school ends. In addition to these summer books I can’t wait to read, I have a stack of new to me authors to enjoy!

WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT…

We have a surprise little trip planned and I am so excited.  It’s a quick getaway, but it will be a great reset! I am also excited for swim team to start! The boys have so much fun and have grown so much each summer.

I am also getting ready to see two author’s talk about their new books. I am going to meet Dorothea Benton Frank (EEEK!!!!!) for the first time. I can’t wait to talk to her, hear what she’s reading, and tell their that one of my favorite books of all time is her The Hurricane Sisters. I love it!!  I am also going to see Sarah Pekkanan talk about her new book next week at my local bookstore, A Likely Story.  I can’t wait!

WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING…

We watched my favorite small town America parade on Monday. It is a family tradition and we had a great time!  We always rock our red, white, and blue for the parade before heading to the pool for the afternoon with friends.

I am currently reading Sunburn by Laura Lippman. It is good! I love reading Laura Lippman’s books because she’s local and I recognize so many of the settings in the books. This one takes place in a made up town in Delaware, but we drive through so many small  towns just like Belleville on the way to the beach that I feel like I know it. I have The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory, Dear Carolina by Kristy Woodson Harvey, The Things We Keep by Sally Hepworth, and The Heart of Henry Quantum by Pepper Harding to read.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO…

I have been listening to a lot of Jimmy Buffett and Zac Brown Band.  They just scream summertime to me.  I have also been listening to “One Foot” by Walk the Moon, “The Middle” by Zedd, Maren Morris, & Grey, “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons, “Runnin’ Down a Dream” by Tom Petty, and “Rolex” by Ayo and Teo.  Our third graders do a big choreographed dance to open our school’s Field Day.  This year it was Jack’s turn and he did a great job! Those were the songs that the kiddos danced to this year, so we’ve been listening a lot!!

WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND…

Jack has a baseball doubleheader on Saturday. Luke has a baseball game on Saturday.

We are celebrating my adorable nephew’s 1st birthday on Sunday and I have a baby shower for my friend Lindsay on Sunday! Lots of fun and celebrating to look forward to!!

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH…

Full time summer!!  Lots of reading time! Pool fun! The boys have basketball camp with some friends. We are hoping to get to the driving range a few times next month and we are heading to the PGA tournament at the end of June.

WHAT ELSE IS NEW…

I celebrated 500 days in my run streak on May 15th.  I met a few friends at the high school track and ran 5 miles for 500 days.  I was almost finished, 4.75 miles finished, when the lightening horn went off. I just couldn’t stop there so I sprinted one last lap around the track made it to my goal!! My run streak consists of running at least 1 mile a day.  Today is Day 515 and I am hitting the pavement before Jack’s baseball game.

Missing Jodi, who ran those 5 miles with us!

BONUS QUESTION: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SUMMER SALAD?

Oh, how to pick just one? I love to make a Caesar pasta salad with tomatoes, fresh sweet corn, shredded chicken, fresh mozzarella, cucumber, and diced bell peppers. My kids love it too!

Have a fabulous Wednesday!

I really enjoy reading your blog. I love to see the pictures of your family and your adventures. I have 4 children, they are teenagers and young adults. The nearby library system has brought so many of my favorite authors, it’s like seeing rock stars to me! In April I was able to meet Karen White and Kristy Woodson Harvey. Last week I met Mary Kay Andrews. Next week Dorothea Benton Frank is coming and the end of June, Elin Hilderbrand. It has all been very exciting for me!
